Potato Gratin.

I served this with Boeuf Bourguignon and it was a perfect french meal.

Potato Gratin is simple and delicious. Everyone loves the creamy potatoes covered in cheese.


4 large russet potatoes
2 T butter
1.5 C heavy cream
1/2 C whole milk
1 t salt + 1 t pepper (I used Masterfoods Garlic Pepper seasonings)
150g cheddar cheese


Preheat oven to 200 deg Celsius.

Peel and slice potatoes into thin slices. Place in a buttered pan by creating overlapping layers. Use a pan that is large enough for the potatoes to sit halfway in it. The milk + cream will boil and bubble over if the pan is too full.

Dot the butter on the top of the potatoes.

Mix the cream, milk and seasonings in a pouring cup.

Pour the liquids over the potatoes.

Cover the pan tightly with foil and place in the oven for 30 mins. Remove foil, and continue baking for 20 mins.

Grate 150g of cheddar cheese.

Remove gratin pan out of the oven and sprinkle the cheese on top of it.

Return the pan to the oven for another 3 to 5 mins until golden brown.

Let the gratin rest for a couple of minutes before serving.

  2. yummy! looks easy! im gonna try your lemon yoghurt cupcakes tomorrow! anyways, if i dont have a measuring cup, can i use a scale instead? like 1cup=how many grams?

    • 1 C liquids – 240ml
      1 C flour – 125g
      1 C caster sugar – 225g
      1 C icing sugar – 110g
      1 C butter – 230g
